Ashdon Village Magazine – Summer 2024

We’re always open and always here for the village! Faith or Church can be many things to many people, in many different ways, but rest assured All Saints is here for us all, whatever your needs. Villagers and visitors alike, come in everyday for peace, for quite reflection, for prayer, for our shared local and national and international history, for a connection with God or for personal spiritual needs.

We may still be recruiting for a vicar, but we are still business as usual! There are usually two types of service during the month; Holy Communion on the second Sunday, led by a priest, and Sunday Worship led by members of our home team on the fourth Sunday. The service of Holy communion is traditional and can be followed by reading the Order of Service provided, which is common to all the churches in the Saffron Walden and Villages Ministry, all part of the Church of England.

Sunday worship on the fourth Sunday is a lovely and inclusive service, where some of us take a role in leading and giving a themed talk. Others may read or tell us about their favourite hymns. This is often in the South or Lady Chapel, which is both bright and intimate, and where we find God together. Here we follow a printed service sheet and other books. This service is normally preceded by a breakfast in the church rooms, to which all are invited. Both services have tea and biscuits served afterwards.

All Saints is also very much here for your weddings, baptisms and funerals. It is both an accommodating and intimate space, and the PA system is newly updated. We have been blessed to celebrate the life of two people in June through conducting the funerals of both Pat Dale and Peter Gerrard.

As a Church community we are responsible for maintaining the wonderful ancient structure of All Saints, as well as paying a contribution to the Church of England, and for our local clergy visits and administration. If you are able, please consider donating, perhaps on a monthly basis to help us with these costs. This really does allow us to keep All Saints available to all. Speak to the Churchwardens for more information, or to reach the treasurer.

Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
1 John, Chapter 4

We really look forward to sharing Gods love with you. Remember, the building is open every day, and do reach out to us if you would like to know more about what we do or you need help in any way.

Mat Lester,
Churchwarden
