Baptisms

It is always a great joy to welcome new members – old or young – into our Church family.

We are happy to conduct a Baptism either within a regular service, or at a time to suit your family. If the Baptism takes place outside a regular service when other congregation members are not present, we ask you to return to a regular service soon afterwards so that we can all meet and welcome you.

Please contact us (see contacts page) in the first instance. Even when we do not have a resident Vicar in Ashdon, a Baptism at All Saints is still possible. See the website for St Mary’s Church Saffron Walden Baptisms for further details.

Weddings

A wedding is a joyous occasion for all the family, and we would be delighted if you chose to be married in the sight of God in our beautiful church.

If you have not been married before, or a previous partner has died, and you live in the village, you have a right to be married here. In the case of marriage after divorce, there are some extra preliminaries, but in most cases, this is still possible. If you do not live here, the law requires us to establish that there is what is called a ‘qualifying connection’ to the village. This might be that your parents live here, or were married her, or you were baptised at All Saints. And if none of these apply, you can still create a connection by attending church here regularly before your wedding. We are here to make your wedding at All Saints possible, not to put up barriers!

Full details of the legal and other rules can be found by following the link to St Mary’s Church/events/weddings. Don’t be put off by the fact that this refers to St Mary’s in Saffron Walden. The rules are common to all churches in the Team, and the first point of contact for all our churches is the Weddings Co-ordinator, Caroline Goulder (stmarysweddings@outlook.com). She will answer any queries and help you to make arrangements for your special day.

Funerals

This is a sad time with so very much to sort out, and we want to do all we can to help.

The first point of contact in arranging a funeral is usually the Funeral Director.  If you would like a service here at All Saints, either before a burial or before or after a service at the crematorium, we would be glad to be able to hold the service here in Ashdon. Please let the Funeral Director know and they will contact the Saffron Walden Team to arrange for a suitably qualified person to take the service.
